The inaugural running of Naas Tri Club’s Sprint Triathlon at Killashee Leisure Centre got underway on Saturday morning in bright but chilly conditions. In the fast wave, Gavin Doran quickly stated his intent with a 10:26 swim followed by David Cahill of 3D and local Naas members John Howlett and Kevin Sweeney . Stephen Surdival posted the fastest bike and run of the day to bring him into contention but there was no stopping Gavin as he finished in 1:06:11 to take the honours ahead of Stephen in 2^nd and David in 3^rd.

In the ladies section Marie Boland of Trinity led throughout, posting a very impressive 1:14:15. In the battle for second, Naas’s Amy-Jane Lawrence held off the fast finishing Georgina Molloy of 3D.

For many this was their first ever triathlon and the real success of the day lay in seeing so many of them coming through the finish line, arms aloft, saying ‘Yes, I’ve done it’. Congrats to all!
